Golf Specific Assessment

Andrew Wilson - DP World Tour

Referred to me from a Physio due to ongoing back issue playing golf. After a golf specific assessment we identified weaknesses in Andrew’s body that we could work on in order to alleviate his back pain. By working closely with Andrew’s coach and commitment by Andrew to do his prescribed exercises he has been able to play consistently on the DP World Tour from the start of the year. Andrew continues to improve his strength and stability throughout the season and is getting great results on tour!

Jess Baker - LET

Jess was initially referred to me with ongoing neck and back pain. After carrying out a golf specific assessment, this has now been resolved. Jess is very consistent with her training whilst competing and with an average club head speed of 100mph for her Driver! It’s important that she keeps her body well prepped and loaded to play. This allows her to fully focus on her game, knowing her body can support her swing.

Scott Henry - Tartan Pro Tour

Scott was referred to me after a back and Hamstring injury left him feeling like he’d lost a lot of power in his swing. We did a full assessment, identified where his body needed support and built a program to target those areas.

The primary goal for Scott was to understand how to use his feet and hips more effectively to support his swing. Scott was used to doing lots of stretching in his previous programs. however we found he was lacking stability in these areas, so created a program focussed on improving strength and stability.

Through consistent work he has gained stability in his feet and hips and his newly gained strength is translating into more power and greater consistency in his game, recently winning on the Tartan Pro Tour.

James Edwards - Captain at Batchworth Park golf club

James is an online client. After an initial assessment we have regular check ins to keep on top of his golf specific work, alongside enhancing his strength and power to support his game. He is currently playing between scratch and 1 handicap and has recently won his club championships. He feels more comfortable with his swing and has continued to gain strength and power throughout the season.

Morgan Blythe - Georgia Southern Golf

Morgan has been working with me since going to America on Golf scholarship. With regular check in’s we are able to ensure his movement work is being done correctly and that he continues to improve his stability, strength and power to ensure he can compete all year round.

Antonia Emmerson - Northumberland Golf Club

Antonia is working with me to gain more stability and strength, so her body better supports her golf swing. After speaking to her coach Steve Robinson, we have come up with a plan to target specific parts of Antonia’s body. We will build her up throughout the year, with the end goal being a Scholarship in America and a body that can support the demands of golf.

Is your body holding you back from your golf swing?

This golf specific assessment consists of manageable golf specific movements, designed to see if a player has the mobility to get into each phase of the golf swing and stability and strength the get back out again. It will highlight areas of the body that can be improved on with targeted personalised golf specific exercises, leading to improved movement and muscle memory.

The outcome of the assessment can be:

  1. A more powerful swing

  2. Improved swing efficiency and consistency

  3. A reduction in the likelihood of injury

I have assessed and worked with golf coaches and players who have achieved all of the above.

Golf Assessment results

This is Andy Paisley, the golf pro at Hexham golf club.

In Andy’s own words he has struggled to rotate in his back swing and through swing. He has historically struggled with too much lateral movement from his hips and not enough horizontal rotation with his pelvis.

Video 1 is Andy’s swing at the beginning of the assessment.

After carrying out the golf specific assessment with Andy it was evident that he had the mobility, but lacked the strength and stability in the left hip.

After doing specific exercises to engage his left lateral and posterior hip musculature he felt like he was “able to put the breaks on” to allow his pelvis to rotate.

Andy felt that he was moving differently after carrying out his specific exercises but this was a subconscious movement, he had more awareness of his left glutes and left foot which stopped his knee from sliding and allowed his left hip to rotate.

Video 2 shows Andy’s swing after carrying out his golf specific exercises.

Once he carried out prescribed exercises he gained strength and stability in the left hip and glutes which allowed his body to now use the musculature around the hip to rotate more effectively.

Andy’s swing speed went from 104 to 111mph within the session.
